Best of Summer

Summer is nearly over, and we can all almost taste the pumpkin flavored season of fall! Looking back, we had a very bookish summer – we cancelled cable! We still have streaming Netflix, but everyone in our house had fun reading this summer.

Here’s our Best of Summer 2013 – Mom & Toddler Edition of our Top Five Favorites:

Toddler Top

Can you tell our toddler loves Sandra Boynton? Well, if you saw how loved our Pajama Time book is, you’d understand – we have read it almost (and, I mean nearly, almost) every night before bedtime since he was an infant.  This summer, though, we really repeated the Critter books & any “truck” books – but, we highly recommend Road Work Ahead.  Each of these books has wonderful and detailed illustrations.  My toddler, as many children do, loves to be able to study the picture and find funny little animals or hidden things.  Most of these have simple dialogue or rhyming that’s easy for us to repeat.

What did your toddler love to read this summer?

Mom's Top

These were my top five YA/Children’s books that I read this summer – I thought this list was going to be difficult, but, as I read through my reviews, it became pretty clear which books made me write rave reviews:

Red Scarf Girl

The Toothpaste Millionaire

Ruby Holler

Listening for Lions

Three Times Lucky

Secondly, I love summer and summer camp so much, that my first children’s novel is about a Bookworm who goes to her first summer sleepaway camp: Camp Bug Juice on Goodreads

With challenges like rock climbing, backpacking, river rescues, swimming, wilderness survival, and even campaigning for Camper of the Year, hopefully, Bea can make it to the fall!

Check out the giveaway below where TWO winners will EACH receive a $10 giftcard to Amazon as well as a Kindle copy of CAMP BUG JUICE!

  1. The best book I’ve read with my son this summer is “Goodnight, Little Monster.” (rafflecopter alycia cartwright morell)

  2. I found a new author, Taylor Dean, and I love everything I have read so far. My favorite is Sierra but I also really enjoyed Joshua’s Folly and For Nick. Still have more to read.

  3. My favourite book this summer was “The Tell-Tale Brain: A Neuroscientist’s Quest for What Makes Us Human”. Good book… fascinating. Thanks for the giveaway.

  4. Oh, we love Sandra Boynton in our house. Our favorite is Snuggle Puppy which I literally sang to my almost 7 year old just last week!

  5. I honestly did not read that much. I had an english summer course to take but did read some short stories and plays, including Metaphors by Sylvia Plath. Thanks for the giveaway :)
